Character Build: The Progenitor

Thanks, Nerak! I somehow managed to miss this guy hitting Legendary altogether!

I think this might be my next "big" overhaul. I have a couple minor updates in mind for the Crimson Scar and Revakriid, but nothing big enough to warrant a bump or anything. For this guy, the presentation is definitely a bit outdated, and it could use a perk spread. Not looking to make as many significant changes as I did with the Montalion, but I might reassess the equipment as well: I think I could find a better aesthetic to pair with Dukaan, and without resorting to the werewolf chat glitch....

I've also got some new werewolf tricks I want to mess around with, but they won't work with this guy's skill set. Ah well, I guess that means I'll have to write another build, ha ha.  Maybe a shock magic werewolf to complete the elemental set ... or a wind magic wolf ... hmm, that actually sounds more appropriate. Yes.

Is there another way to equip multiple items without the werewolf glitch? It's a bit of a hassle to do the glitch every time so I can have my enchantments. Also, using the cursed ring of Hircine helps a lot with roleplaying a werewolf. Besides that, I'm loving the build so far. I'm level 31 atm.

You can do it via going to jail but that's even more a hassle. The best way I've found is to get the Secret Servant power from the Dragonborn DLC. Just activate Secret Servan to summon a Dremora you can trade with, then activate Wolf form. He'll talk to you automatically so you don't have to time it properly or anything. Super easy.

Thanks, Vivec. Glad you like it!

Unfortunately, there's no easier way to equip multiple items. I didn't always bother with the chat glitch every single time I transformed; I sometimes just used Dukaan and went without those Light Armor perks, or sometimes just used the Skaal hat and went without the extra spell power.

For what it's worth, I'm thinking about revisiting this build and trying to find a way to modify the gear so that it still evokes the Atmoran connection without requiring the chat glitch to wear multiple items at once in the same slot. That revision is probably still a ways off; it's pretty nebulous right now and I don't have any specific plan. Just a few rough ideas that I need to test in-game. I may end up having to swap out a few perks as well to make it work.

But in the meantime, I still stand by the writeup in its current form. When you get everything together, it's a ton of fun. Easily the best way to make Destruction viable on a non-alchemist.

Someone else mentioned the Cursed Ring a while back in the comments. I agree, it's a great roleplaying tool! The main reason I didn't include it in this build is that Paul England's Vargr was the first build to use that idea in practice, and that build came out not long before this one, so I didn't want to tread on Paul's shoes. I absolutely endorse the idea though.

Yeah, the Dremora Servant is a great option for the chat glitch. He has no morality issues either, so you cant transform in front of him without worrying about being attacked or leaving. Also, I'm pretty sure you can command him to pick up skill books before you read them, and then save them for when you're a higher level and/or have Scholar's Insight to get the optimum benefit from each book.

He can also be activated and traded with mid-battle. I don't think you can command him though..

Awesome, I'll have to check that out today. Thanks for the quick and helpful responses.

Hi Teccam, I really like this build. I want to try it out myself as I have not played that many wolfman builds. To be honest only one. I also like the roleplay oppurtunities. Great job

Quick question: Will there be a revamp in the near future as you mentioned it before? Thanks

    Thanks, Rumare!

The revamp concept I had for this guy never really got off the ground, because I couldn't quite manage to tie the ideas together into anything cohesive enough for my liking. Some of the ideas I had:

    • Expand the spellbook to incorporate Wall of Frost and possibly one or two others
    • Add a Stalhrim warhammer with the Skullcrusher perks
    • Dragonborn Frost + Frost Breath (perfect synergy with Skullcrusher, as DB Frost gives enemies +500 AR while they are encased)
    • Maybe Chaos Damage on that warhammer as well
    • Switch from Light Armor to Heavy Armor; use Ulfric's Clothes + Nordic Carved Boots/Gauntlets + Dukaan for armor; flesh spells and Block for extra defense as needed

If you want to incorporate any of that into a playthrough, I'm sure it'd all work well. But I struggled bringing it together, and I had a few other more nebulous concepts that I never really got around to ironing out or testing properly.

In the end, I'm really happy with it as it stands now, so I won't revamp it unless I feel like I can get those ideas to really come together and strengthen the build as both a character and a concept. I've put the revamp on the back burner for the time being; I'm working on revamping another one of my builds right now (The Undying) which is coming along slowly but surely. I've also got a concept for a new werewolf build that's pretty promising, but tbh, I've mostly moved into other games these days, so I won't make any promises about getting that one out any time soon.

Hey guys, so this has been revamped. Thanks to Albino for working with me for so long on this! It's still pretty short and sweet, and I won't lie, it pains me to do a non-alchemist build. But I think it's in good shape now. Thoughts?
