Character Build: The Montalion

Thanks.  Yeah, I do tend to like my exploits.  I think this one at least allows for a degree of "scaling" for people like you.  The Agent is pretty much all or nothing, I admit; if you don't use Slow Time, you will die.  But the Enforcer at least can be scaled down.  e.g., Use Ironflesh instead of Ebonyflesh, or just drop Mage Armor 1/3.  And/or use only one of the two Fortify effects from the Spirit Blade Cleanse, so the blade is only 2x as powerful rather than 4x.

I understand it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm glad you at least like the write-up. :)  Thanks again, by the way, for bringing up the Redguard Hood as a match for the Telvanni Robes. Seriously worked out perfectly for me here, when I was totally blanking on headwear.

Hah, couldn't ask for any higher praise than this, coming from you to a non-Argonian build!

With Illusion and Conjuration, I highly doubt that :P I played my Shaper on master with Morokei as my only source of AR, and I did fine with very few shouts!

To be fair, the only use for Conjuration was to summon the blade.  I didn't use necromancy or atromancy even once while playtesting.

As for Illusion, it's a minor skill for a reason. :p  I honestly considered stopping at Apprentice, since Aspect of Terror is the real prize.  But at that point, I figured, why not just take it to Expert for the advanced Fear and Calm spells?  I saved those advanced Illusion perks for the very end, and didn't really end up using the Rout/Pacify spells more than once a week or so (in-game, that is) so they were more just for insurance.

Both the Shaper and this guy have a special ace in the hole in that they can transform to a more powerful form in an emergency.  So yeah, you could definitely drop Illusion, Mage Armor, and the Talos Blessing, and rely more on the VL form as insurance instead.  The spirit of the build would remain mostly intact.

The ring trick doesn't work with Ahzidal's ring. It unequips and removes the powers. Did you actually try it or just figured it worked like the Ring of Namira?

This build is terribly underrated (even if it is only a few days old...)

No, I guarantee you it works.  I did it myself multiple times.  Equip the ring, then talk to Sinding, and it will forcibly remove the ring without removing the spells.  Perhaps you need to have Ignite favorited or equipped at the time the Cursed Ring is added, that's how I did it, and it worked for me on five consecutive tests.  Not one of them failed.  I tested Namira three times and it didn't work for any of them.

I also got Ahzidal's ring to work by equipping Namira's ring, then talking to Sinding, then equipping Ahzidal's ring while still wearing the cursed ring.  Even though the cursed ring wasn't de-equipped, and Ahzidal's ring wasn't shown as being equipped in my inventory, both spells were added.  Try it that way if the normal way isn't working for you.  Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you, except that it absolutely works on Xbox with patch 1.9 and all three DLCs.

I stand by every single piece of information here.  I can prove it with a very low quality webcam recording of my TV screen if you don't want to take me at my word.

I had the spells favorited but not equipped. I'll go try again. I wasn't saying you were lying, just didn't know if you tried it. In fact, if you're right I'll be very happy. Edit: if you say you tested it I believe you. You're other builds speak to that.

Btw, if I can get it to work my current build will love it since it already uses ahzidal's ring. If I end up posting the build do you mind if I use the exploit and give you credit?

After several attempts I think I figured out the exact way it works. Even with ignite and freeze hotkeyed and equipped they were still removed, but I was able to "reequip" ahzidal's ring and get them back. It doesn't seem to actually equip though. Strange, but the point is that it does indeed work. May be worth noting the exact process though. Great find. +1
