So I have been playing the Elder Scrolls for a long time and I love the immense amount of lore about the series. I was bored one day and stumbled on this site and loved it. So I decided to make my own build. The following build came about in a weird way. It started with wanting to make a cool looking character with cultist robes and a two handed sword, it then evolved with the help of lore and a few pages on this website (Many of Mason, Ponty, and Hensons ideas come to mind). NOTE: THIS BUILD RELIES HEAVILY ON DRAGONBORN DLC! Anyways this is my first build or rather builds, I hope they are alright! Also I apologize for how lengthy it is. There was just a lot to say.

    Class Build: The Ansei Hiradirge

"Be resolute, fear no sacrifice and surmount every difficulty to win victory. - Frandar do Hunding Hel Ansei No Shira

Legend/Lore: The Sword-Singers were a group of expert Redguard warriors from Yokuda and later Hammerfell. Their origins lie with a group of desert artisans that built a temple to the gods of war and a training hall named “The Hall of the Virtues of War”. Here they mastered their swordsmanship and pursued ever more powerful swords, sometimes forging their own. The highest of the Sword-Singers were known as Ansei or “Saints of the Sword”, men and women who could harness their internal energy and create a “Shehei” or spirit sword.  The study of the Shehei was known as “Shehei Shen She Ru” or The Way of the Spirit Sword.

But from the Ansei came the Hiradirge, a group of rogue Ansei who also mastered Stone magics, it is believed that they caused the destruction of the continent of Yokuda. The Hiradirge were eventually wiped out and faded into history and legends…

You are a member of the Hiradirge, one of the last remaining disciples. You trained for years in the Alik’r desert honing your skill and preparing your body and soul. Word came to you of the Civil War in Skyrim and you knew it was time to show the world the Hiradirge once more, so you set off for the country known as the Throat of the World.

The Sword is Used to Destroy Path: The Master Swordsman

An Ansei who believes a sword is used to destroy uses it as such. You are a remorseless warrior that has faced many hardened battles, but always came out on top. You only seek a worthy opponent so that maybe you can finally sate your appetite for battle.

    Play style:

This is a build of the Ansei crafted as more of a sword fighter than anything else, relying mostly on dual wielding swords, two handed swords, and high stamina. When entering combat use whatever weapon seems the most viable. For slower opponents dual wield, for more hardier opponents use a two hander. This style relies on attacking quick and hard, not relenting, and never giving the opponent a chance to counter attack.

    Statistics:

    Race: Redguard (For Lore Reasons)
Stone: The Lady (For the Stamina Regen)
Majors: Block, Two Handed, One Handed,
Minors: Enchanting, Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Smithing
Key Shouts: Become Ethereal, Cyclone (DB), Elemental Fury, Slow Time, Whirlwind Sprint, Storm Call

    Equipment:
Weapons: Nordic Claymore*(DB), Bloodskal Blade*(DB), Nordic Long sword x2*(DB), Bound Sword x2, Blades Swordx2
    Head: Alik’r Hood, Redguard Hood
    Chest: Cultist Robes*
    Hands: Cultist Gloves*/ Steel Gauntlets
    Feet: Bone Mold Boots*/Steel Boots
    Accessories: Ring, Necklace

*Note: These things can be hard to get early on so just make do with steel weapons until then, for added flavor use scimitars to dual wield. Use any robes possible until acquiring cultist robes.

    Stat Spread: Health/4 Stamina/5 Magicka /2

    At Level 80:       Health: 400        Stamina: 500     Magicka: 200

    Level 20 Perk Spread

    Level 40 Perk Spread

    Level 73 Perk Spread

    Skill Set Reasoning:

One Handed: You are a master swordsman after all so it only makes sense; mostly it is to make your Shehei (Bound Sword) more powerful.

Two Handed: Again, master swordsman so you can easily wield large blades with skill.

Block: A master swordsman knows how to defend himself from attacks as well.
*Note: For the Sword is used to Destroy path this skill can be neglected.

Enchanting: This one might not seem to make sense but it is necessary. The Sword Singers were renowned for forging powerful swords, so it only makes sense that they would have enchanted them with powerful magical effects as well.

Alteration: The Ansei wears robes and some varied armor so instead of wasting points in both armor skills the Ansei prefers alteration magic. Use the flesh spells as if they were a type of stone magic encasing your body in armor. (Stoneflesh makes perfect sense for this.) Also used for Ash Rune and Ash Shell.

Conjuration: This is where the imagination part kicks in. You will be using conjuration to summon your Shehei (Bound Sword) and taking all relevant perks to increase its power.

Destruction: Destruction is really just used for the Whirlwind cloak spell to act as a sort of stone/earth magic.

Restoration: The Ansei has been trained to use restoration magics to heal minor wounds received in battle.

Smithing: The Ansei is a swordsman that values high quality swords above all else, thus he creates and improves his own swords. *Note: Either heavy or light side of smithing can be chosen. I chose light because it is shorter and the Nordic carved weapons are under advanced armors.

The Sword is Used to Defend Path: The Guardian

An Ansei who believes a sword is used to defend will use it as such. You are a warrior of justice and mercy, you travel the country side looking to defend the innocent, sword and shield in hand.

    Play style:

This is a build of the Ansei crafted as more of a sword and board style than anything else, relying mostly on sword and shield and high health. When entering battle cast a flesh spell and your cloak spell, then pull out the sword and board and bash until you have a good enough opening to attack the opponent  This build is all about timing and defense.

    Statistics:

    Race: Redguard (For Lore Reasons)
Stone: The Lord (For the Physical and Magical defense boosts)
Majors: Block, , One Handed, Destruction, Alteration,
    Minors: Enchanting, Conjuration, Restoration, Smithing
Key Shouts: Become Ethereal, Cyclone (DB), Elemental Fury, Slow Time, Whirlwind Sprint, Storm Call

    Equipment:
Weapons: Bloodskal Blade*(DB), Nordic Long sword *(DB), Bound Sword, Blades Sword
Shield: Bone Mold Shield*, Steel Shield
    Head: Alik’r Hood, Redguard Hood
    Chest: Cultist Robes*
    Hands: Cultist Gloves*/ Steel Gauntlets
    Feet: Bone Mold Boots*/Steel Boots
    Accessories: Ring, Necklace

*Note: These things can be hard to get early on so just make do with steel weapons until then. Use any robes possible until acquiring cultist robes.

    Stat Spread: Health/5 Stamina/4 Magicka /2

    At Level 80:       Health: 500        Stamina: 400     Magicka: 200

    Level 20 Perk Spread

    Level 40 Perk Spread

    Level 64 Perk spread

    Skill Set Reasoning:

One Handed: You are a master swordsman after all so it only makes sense; mostly it is to make your Shehei (Bound Sword) more powerful.

Block: A master swordsman knows how to defend himself from attacks as well.  This is the mainstay of the Sword is Used to Defend Path. A sword in one hand and shield in the other provides for a versatile and fast means of attack while adding a solid defense.

The cloak spell is essential to the Guardian build, allowing him to fling enemies away.

The Sword is a Conduit Path: The True Hiradirge

An Ansei who believes a sword is used as a conduit relies more on magic. You seek to gain more knowledge of the magics around you. You have increased your understanding of the spirit world so as to take better advantage of your Shehei.

    Play style:

This is a build of the Ansei crafted as more of a spell sword style than anything else, relying mostly on sword and spell and high magicka. When entering battle cast flesh spells and cloaks for defense then cause as much damage as possible with spells, using ash rune and ash shell to hinder enemies, switch to some fire spells and incinerate the slowed opponents, if you must finish them off with your sword.

    Statistics:

    Race: Redguard (For Lore Reasons)
Stone: The Apprentice (For the Magicka Regen), or Atronach (For the Increased Magicka and Absorption)
    Majors: One Handed, Destruction, Alteration,
Minors: Enchanting, Conjuration, Restoration, Smithing, Block
Key Shouts: Become Ethereal, Cyclone (DB), Elemental Fury, Slow Time, Whirlwind Sprint, Storm Call

    Equipment:
Weapons: Bloodskal Blade*(DB), Nordic Long sword *(DB), Bound Sword, Blades Sword
    Head: Alik’r Hood, Redguard Hood
Chest: Telvanni Robes* (Gives the bonus of making you look like Jafar from Aladdin)
    Hands: Cultist Gloves*/ Steel Gauntlets
    Feet: Bone Mold Boots*/Steel Boots
    Accessories: Ring, Necklace

*Note: These things can be hard to get early on so just make do with steel weapons until then. Use any robes possible until acquiring cultist robes.

    Stat Spread: Health/3 Stamina/3 Magicka /5

    At Level 80:       Health: 300        Stamina: 300     Magicka: 500

    Level 20 Perk Spread

    Level 40 Perk Spread

    Level 57 Perk spread

    Skill Set Reasoning:

One Handed: You are a master swordsman after all so it only makes sense; mostly it is to make your Shehei (Bound Sword) more powerful.

The Hiradirge makes use of Flame Spells as well, channeling into the ancient stone magic and using it to access the magmas beneath Nirn the Hiradirge controls fire as well.

    • ROLEPALY TIPS:

As part of your Redguard honor you will not attack an unarmed opponent. (Gods, Demons, and Shapers do not count)

    Never run from a challenge.

Treat every sword fight as a duel

Only use your Shehei when you really have to

Only use enchant to enchant your swords, an Ansei has no need of magical armor or rings, his blades are what he cares for most.

If you are The Sword is Used to Destroy Path then join the Stormcloaks.

If you are The Sword is Used to Defend Path then join the Imperials.

If you are The Sword is a Conduit Path then join the College of Winterhold.

DO NOT become a Werewolf or Vampire as they will corrupt your soul and make your Shehei weak.

Looks good and like it could be fun to give a try.  I like the lore behind it as well.

Yes, a Yokudan! An awesome take on a 'traditional' Yokudan. I really love the different paths, these are just some points I want to bring up. Redguards are strongly against Enchanting, they disagree with the tampering of souls. That being said, you could probably use it as a kind of 'natural' magic instead of actually Enchanting. Well that's basically it, it's a really good build. +1 like from a fellow Redguard/ Yokudan lover.

very nice build. I almost feel like I need the DLC just for new builds. ^_^

  • February 20, 2013

Thanks! Yeah the enchanting thing was a little iffy for me, I think it would be really cool if the Elder Scrolls series added spells that allowed you to just coat your weapons with magic, much like Star Ocean, but sadly they don't. I like your idea of it being like natural magic though, I was thinking of it as them simply "bending" the elements to their weapons. Anyways thanks again!

You're the one who made the build, no need to thank me. I was working on a Yokudan build last week, but I gave up on it, so I'm extremely happy someone else made one (especially since it turned out way better then if I would've gone through with mine).
  • February 20, 2013

Lol I was actually afraid someone would beat me to making this while I was working on it. I find it odd that there is a lack of Yokudan builds. The dudes are so powerful, I mean just by pretending to know a sword stance Cyrus the Redguard basically made Vivec crap himself.

  • February 20, 2013
Don't worry, your's is better fleshed out and more creative than mine anyways. Yeah, I was talking to Vix, he said that Redguards are actually weaker than Yokudans due to the breeding with less physically talented races (which is terrifying when you consider how powerful Redguards are).
