Well, in-game becoming a pure-blooded vampire means that some of Harkon's blood is flowing through the Dragonborn's veins ( Vinagalmo or some other Volkihar vampire says that before sending you to turn some hold citizen into a vampire ). Maybe it's the same thing with Molag Bal and Harkon.

What causes the corpse explosions? Is it the ritual stone or the Marked for Death shout.  I've never used the ritual stone and never really been a fan of necromancy either, but this build makes me curious.

After reading up on the stone and the shout, I don't see what causes the explosion.

Ah, lol...the one of the few things I didn't look up.  Makes sense now.

I don't know why I've never been a fan of Necromancy...the zombies or whatever you want to call them always seemed to get in my way more than they helped.

Ahzidal's Ring of Necromancy enables minions to explode when damaged or in this case, hit by Marked for Death. You can explode them by using any damaging shout on them. Marked for death however lowers the healthpool so it's as if the damage from explosions is amplified.

Explosions are triggered by both MfD and the resulting exploding chain reaction. It all comes down to minion positions at the time of detonation. I think however that MfD has a greater area of effect than the frost explosions.

So seeing as the ring is only popped on to make your zombies go boom...what do you wear the rest of the time?

From what I understand from just reading about the ring (never used it) the zombie doesn't have to take enough damage to die....the zombie just taking damage causes it to explode.  So it isn't the explosion of zombie 1 setting off zombie 2, but the AoE damage from the shout.

After watching a video of the ring in use, I wonder how good it actually is.  The guy was using a dagger and 1 hitting things (not stealth)....but exploding zombies barely dented the health of the same enemies.

The damage from the explosion is 50 points of frost, even so, no matter the amount, the zombie will still explode.

I wore a fortify illusion ring i had bought. It's not a must. I leave this choice to the player.
