Are you dual casting the fear spells? That will raise the level so most are feared, since dual casting doubles the level cap. Also, make sure you get the Rout spell. Fear is only good up until level 9 enemies (18 with dual cast) and Rout is good for lvl 20 (lvl 40 with dual cast). Add on being a vampire with necromage and things should not resist anything. Ever.
Also, I am sure you know but just checking, undead cannot be feared until you get master of the mind. That is why I invested into Restoration for turn undead spells (good leveling for necromage) as it is a fear effect for the undead.

Oh man I am not sure. The way I did it is I just took perks when they were available. Vampirism boosts illusion by itself 25%, which gives the level cap a hefty lift.
Looking it up, without necromage/vampirism, dual casting Rout will pretty much turn almost everything. The vampire abilities make it that much more awesome, but I am sure the wiki or somewhere else will give you more details.
All in all, if you take perks as they come, I am sure you will be fine. I don't remember the order of my perks (wish I did for helping out's sake) but maxing out illusion and dual casting is absolutely devastating, so no worries there.

Hi Henson, liked this great build earlier already, but I thought I'd share something additional about its awesomeness
A cruel move to defeat a single melee enemy! It requires: Flame Wall spell, Fear spell, Frenzy spell and a narrow place of some length (corridor, bridge etc.)
Walk backwards along the "corridor", while laying a flame wall. Presumably your enemy follows you, so when you have a wall of some length, Fear him. Because the space is narrow, he runs the length of your wall, away from you. When he reaches the other end, Frenzy him so he runs toward you, then Fear... rinse and repeat, all the while gloating maniacally Watch your enemy run back and forth in agonizing flames... If you have area spells you can even have multiple enemies suffering at once! I actually had two melee enemies helplessly running in my flame wall, all the while two zombies whacked at them.
I know, Flame Wall isn't the most damaging spell and this is a longish post of a slow way of killing enemies, but I think it is a fun move occasionally. Maybe that's just me I thought it would make a great special move, might call it "Gauntlet of cruelty" or something.
Anyway, cheers for making this build. And some others, since it seems that almost all the builds I play or have played most are either yours or Narm's.

I have a question. I think this build looks amazing, but I think I'd feel more like a scary necromancer with frost spells instead of fire. Would that be viable, if I just switched those?

Well the whole point of the build is to build on fear, which is clearly explained to complete the synergy as enemies with low health on fire will flee in terror. Check out my Khulari build for frost spells!

Normally I'd say yes. But fire suits this build so much better, due to the fear effect from Intense Flames and increased damage from Aspect of Terror.

"I too equate necromancy more with the Frost line of spells than Fire, but in this case it would seriously diminish the build's value to swap out the fire spells for their ice variants. A huge part of this build's success comes from the synergy between fire spells causing enemies to flee and Illusion spells, in turn, boosting fire damage (both of which tying perfectly into the theme of creating fear)."
This was the response given (not by Henson) to someone who asked the question a few pages back. I'm sure Henson feels the same way about it.
