Heroic Spirit Guide - Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal

Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal is the only real known leader of the Kamal, and during life was most famous for his attempt at invading Tamriel in the Second Akaviri Invasion. He led an army that was powerful enough to crush Windhelm and advance through Skyrim with little to no trouble, but was eventually stopped by the early formation of the Ebonheart Pact. This legend is barely documented (Nords tend to hate discussing their failures) so little is known about it, but the legend is still an incredibly powerful one in Tamriel.

Heroic Spirits are often more powerful when they’re more well known (so Tiber Septim would theoretically be one of the most powerful Heroic Spirits) but they also gain power from their homeland. Ada’Soom essentially has all of the Mystery of the Kamal granted to him, so despite his legend being relatively weak it is proportionally strong because so few Kamal Heroes are well known outside of Akavir. If he were ever summoned in his home, he would most likely be even more incredibly powerful.

    Qualified Servant Classes

Note 1: All Heroic Spirits are summoned into a specific ‘class container’ which dictates many of their skills, parameters and even personality. While they’re often most suited for a particular class, there are many heroes that qualify for multiple classes and thus could theoretically be summoned under any of those classes. An easy example is Almalexia. She is well known for both her swordsmanship and magical abilities and would commonly be summonable under the classes of Saber or Caster.

Saber, Archer, Lancer and Berserker *

Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal is one of the most influential figures that we know very little about. Interestingly, when he was alive it was known that he wielded a weapon to great effect and was a frontlines Commander (leading with his army rather than commanding from behind them) so his prowess in battle is impossible to ignore, but nobody can truly pinpoint what weapon he used. This ambiguous nature has worked well for the Servant meaning he can be summoned under any of the three Knight Classes (Archer, Lancer and Saber). However, if summoned as a Lancer he is incredibly weak due to his hatred of Spear due to the Argonian Phalanx being the final nail hammered into the coffin of his invasion attempt.

Finally, Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal and his army were known to have flown into a frenzy during their near defeat, even creating the possibility of pushing back the combined armies of Almalexia and Jorunn Skald-King. Because of this he’s able to be summoned under the ‘Berserker’ Class.

    Class for this Guide: Berserker

    Parameters

Note2: Parameters are defined both by the individual and the class they’re summoned under. For example, all Caster’s have a base Mana of A, but there are individuals who have specific restrictions that may reduce their Mana to B or are incredibly powerful and thus could have a rating of A+. The system is hardly a way to judge a servant fully, just because an individual has higher stats doesn’t mean they’ll automatically defeat someone with lower stats, but it would mean that (for example) a Servant with a Strength of A will be naturally stronger than one with a Strength of B.

Note 3: The ranking is E, D, C, B, A, EX. Ranks E through A can also have a modifier (either + or -) that designates that their skill has certain restrictions or increases in certain situations. Essentially a + or – means that their highest level isn’t stable or permanent, with a B+ being normally weaker than an A but being stronger than an A in certain circumstances. Examples – fighting a specific foe, being blessed or cursed, having a spell cast on you, etc

Note 4: A servant is more powerful than a normal mortal by default (or the average human). E is 10x more powerful than an average human. D is 20x more powerful and so on and so forth. EX is theoretically 100x more powerful, but the scale is ambiguous.

    Strength: A

    Endurance: A

    Agility: C+

    Mana: D

    Luck: E

    Noble Phantasm: C

    Class Skills:

Note 5: Class Skills are the skills that all Servants summoned under that class have access to, but to a varying degree based on the individuals. These are very general skills, but everyone will have different ranks in each skill based on certain aspects of their legend which are popular. If a Saber Class Servant was well known for fighting Mages, then they may receive a higher Magic Resistance than another Saber Servant who was known for being killed by a Mage.

    Mad Enhancement: A+

Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal’s Mad Enhancement provides a rank-up to all his physical parameters (Strength, Endurance and Agility) while locking him into a madness induced rage that leaves him incapable of ‘true speech’ and almost impossible to hold back from combat. This is especially true against Argonians, Dunmer and Nords who will instantly incite the hatred of the Kamal.

    Personal Skills:

Note 6: Personal Skills are unique to everyone…mostly. Two Servants may have Personal Skills with the same name, but they’ll have unique differences based on their own personal life and legend (for example, two Servants may have the ‘Charisma’ skill at the exact same rank, but one of them may be more charismatic when talking to military leaders while the other is more charismatic when talking to commoners.

    Battle Continuation: A

Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal has vowed to never draw his last breath until his heart has been punctured twice, and he’s been decapitated. Sadly, the boast is empty, but his battle continuation has been honed to the point of being capable of fighting with deadly wounds (though a truly decisive blow will still end his life).

    Hatred for the Hist: N/A

Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal’s hatred for Argonians is so profound that he is essentially an Anti-Argonian type Heroic Spirit. Because of this all his skills and parameters are pushed up an additional rank when fighting an Argonian, making him an incredibly deadly warrior.

    Noble Phantasms:

Note 7: Noble Phantasms are unique to each Servant completely and is a notable part of their legend. For some heroes, these may be unique weapons or a set of armour that they wielded in their life, for others it may be a concept that is closely related to the Servant’s legend. For example, Morihaus is likely to be summoned with The Lord’s Mail as a set of armour while Tiber Septim may have a Noble Phantasm connected to his role of Emperor or Dragonborn.

    The Breath of Ada’Soom: D

The Breath of Ada’Soom is a unique weapon held by Ada’Soom that while containing very little power by itself (bar the ability to partially freeze enemies), can take the form of any weapon that the user can imagine. It could be a sword, an axe, a spear or any number of other weapons but still retain the same base power and legend.

    Hero of the Kamal: B

Ada’Soom Dir-Kamal is by far the most well-known of the Kamal people (and if he were ever summoned in their territory would be a near god-like Heroic Spirit) and in many ways holds the legend for the Kamal as a whole. Any act in Tamriel that is linked to the Kamal can be traced back to Ada’Soom. His Noble Phantasm uses that power to augment The Breath of Ada’Soom with an ability that encapsulates the power of all of Kamal, releasing a powerful blast of frost in a wide area, which Is capable of killing instantly and then changing the field of battle temporarily.

My intent with these Guides is to create something slightly like Trekster’s , with the intent on creating characters that closely mimic the rules of another universe, and then translating them to Skyrim. There are massive differences, I’m using individual characters and a completely different system, and well technically mine could work in both. This could just as easily be a canon Heroic Spirit as a Skyrim Build.

To be honest, the translation is rather minor because the Backstory, Roleplaying and Combat are going to be mostly left to you rather than fully developed by me, so instead I’ll mostly just be listing a set of Skills, their Stats and anything I deem compulsory knowledge that can’t be edited. Which for the most part, should be minor unless the character has something really specific about them that isn’t already mentioned.

    Skills and Stats:

Primary Skills: One-Handed or Two-Handed, Heavy Armour, Block and Destruction or Enchanting

    Secondary Skills: Smithing and Archery

    Tertiary/Optional Skills: Enchanting or Destruction

Stats: 1 Magicka, 5 Health and 4 Stamina every 10 levels.

    Required Perks and Equipment:

One-Handed: Armsman 5/5, Bladesman/Bone Breaker/Hack and Slash 3/3, Fighting Stance and Savage Strike.

    Or

    Two-Handed: Barbarian 5/5,

Enchanting: Enchanter 5/5 and Frost Enchanter

    Or

Destruction: Novice-Adept Destruction and Augmented Frost 2/2

Heavy Armour: Juggernaut 5/5 and Conditioning

Equipment: Stalhrim Helmet (Level 1) -à Eventually full Stalhrim Armour + Weapons

Ada’Soom is difficult to translate from the ground up because he is fundamentally a bit ‘alien’ to Skyrim. He’s a Kamal, which isn’t a race that exists (either anymore or just in Skyrim) and it kind of creates an odd situation where you’re playing a character that’s hard to get right. Personally, I would start off by making him an Orc, it’s not perfect but it’s better than nothing. From that point I would highly recommend equipping a Stalhrim Helmet of some sort, which yes is hardly something that you can find but using any Cheat Chest mod or the console with PC. Again, it’s hardly the perfect solution but it’s what we can do for now.

Playing him is actually fairly easy in my opinion. Mentally, you don’t have to worry about that because Ada’Soom will fly into a rage and attempt to murder any Nord he sees. That kind of locks you out of a massive portion of the game, but it creates a rather interesting playstyle that ‘rewards’ you for murdering just about anyone you see (after all, if you aren’t sure if that person’s a Nord, it’d be best to kill him anyway). Berserker Class servants with a higher level of Mad Enhancement are kind of battle-crazy or just completely and utterly over-ridden with a powerful bloodlust that they have no interest in controlling. They aren’t’ tactical, intelligent or cunning and will use their sheer power to steamroll their opponents. Ada’Soom is simple, he kills things and that’s about all the complexity to his character.

I’ve already covered Mad Enhancement, and actually that basically covers all his skills. Battle Continuation is already a part of Skyrim because of it’s silly systems (Warhammer to head = 20 points of damage) which kind of makes it ridiculously easy to replicate. Everything else is mental or covered by the use of Berserker Rage so…I have nothing to add regarding his skills.

Noble Phantasms are a bit trickier. Basically you have the freedom to use literally any weapon you want as long as it has a Frost Enchantment which covers The Breath of Ada’Soom but I would strongly consider picking up Stalhrim weapons at around Level 30 and relying heavily on them for the playthrough. They just look too damn cool not to use. Hero of the Kamal is a bit trickier, if not downright impossible because Skyrim doesn’t have massive blasts of Frost being released by a Sword. Eh, okay so really I would recommend just using Dual Cast Ice Storm but if you can think of a way you’d prefer to utilize it then go ahead. Honestly I would consider a strong Frost Enchantment good enough, but it’s up to you.

Ah wonderful job Deebs. So we got Berserker, Caster, whose next?
  • December 12, 2018

Hmm, all I'll say is that the first seven characters are going to have unique classes (so no Berserker or Caster for a bit...maybe no Saber as well but I'm not sure.)

You could do Hero of Kamal with the Dragonborn DLC if you don’t mind dipping into Shouts. All 3 words of Frost Breath plus Dragonborn Frost is a medium-Range cone that freezes enemies solid.

Another suggestion, if you don’t mind me making it, is that the Lord Stone would be great for this guy for concept as well as for effect. It gives 50 more Armor and 25 Magic Resist.

Damn that really would work...but I'm hesitant to include Shouts in this particular build, or really any that aren't Dragonborn. It's a good suggestion mate, but yeah going to have to avoid it purely because I can't justify it.

Lord Stone would definitely work (moreso the Andromeda Lord Stone) but I'll leave it up to anyone that wants to play it. I'm thinking of starting a run with the character (maybe) and I think I'll go with the Lord, but yeah I want to leave that slot free.

So I've actually started playing this one (because...not sure why to be honest it wasn't the original intent but I just enjoyed the character enough that I've now delved into the build in a massive way.) and it's quite interesting. Obviously it's different from the Guide in a huge way, but the core identity of the build works really, really well. Might post it at some point but not sure.
