Hot off the press from Bethesda, and therefore 'official' information rather than internet speculation
Hi everyone,
Popping in to say that it’s been very fun seeing everyone’s discussion on Fallout 76 and what your hopes and thoughts are about the game. I and members of the studio regularly lurk, and it’s been great to read through your questions and feedback. With that in mind, we know you’re anxious to learn more about the game and more specifically, about the B.E.T.A.
Starting in October we’ll be selecting people who have pre-ordered the game from a participating retailer to enter our B.E.T.A. We’ll start small and grow over time as we prepare for launch. Be sure you’ve read our F.A.Q., for details on how to redeem your B.E.T.A. code and other important details.
EDIT: To clarify, everyone who pre-orders at a participating retailer will be included in the B.E.T.A.
Beyond that, we know you have numerous questions about the game. Things are still changing and being iterated on, so we cannot answer everything yet, but we encourage you to submit your questions. During the Fallout 76 panel at QuakeCon we’ll be answering some of your questions. If you’re in Dallas, come join us. If you’re not able to make in person, you can check out all the fun via the live stream airing on Mixer. Send questions our way by posting them here in the forums, on any of the Fallout subreddits, Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
Thank you again for all your patience, discussion, feedback, and thoughts as we get closer to the launch of Fallout 76!
At first thought, I have to say, that seems too close to release date for comfort. It rather suggests that the game will likely have quite a few issues at release that will have to be addressed with post-release patches.

Exactly my thoughts, that seems like cutting it very close, especially for what is essentially Bethesda's FO team's first venture into multiplayer.

That is very true, but bugs tend to mean there will also be glitches and exploits which is a whole lot more crucial to get rid of in a multiplayer experience than it is in a single player one for the obvious balancing problems it creates in a game where you compete with other people.
Ultimately I'm not expecting it not to have some bugs but since they announced a Beta I was kind of hoping they would get rid of more bugs than your trusty old singleplayer Bethesda experience. With only a month of betatesting, I'm not so certain about that actually happening.

It's not 'bugs' I'm worried about (as Teineeva says, that's par for the course with Bethesda). I'm worried whether the game will run at all!

I'm sure it will. In my experience, bugs are a thing with Bethesda because the worlds they create are just so huge. I'm more worried about exploits that people will find and use in pvp. Maybe duplicating nuke code giltches? That would be.... fun...

Hmm...yeah that's just strangely close to the launch date. I could possible understand it if the B.E.T.A ran right up until Launch or something, that way they're gathering data on a daily basis but...yeah I was half expecting an August or September Beta and that was pushing it. This actually has me kind of uneasy about the game, not entirely but a little bit more than I was previously.
