Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay

Have you seen this divine gift? I'm afraid of what the requirements will be, but I doubt I'll be able to run it - not so much for the graphics, but for the sheer amount of CPU usage this must have. So, so many NPCs, all kind of unique with their own routines. No loading orders. Damn, I might start saving for an XBOX X instead of upgrading my computer...

In case the video doesn't load: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjF9GgrY9c0

    Thoughts?

    My highlights:

    • Animated titties.*

    • The world is not only the most densely populated world I've ever seen in a game, it's also alive. At some point during the gampleay, you pass by a cofee shop and a waitress is serving food/drinks to a couple of clients sitting there. This is crazy, with no loading orders, I have no idea what kind of processor it will be necessary to process all of these things (though my knowledge in hardware isn't really something to brag about, at all).

    • Customization. Lots of customization, and the dialogue adapts to recognize your gender ("Miss V"). Not only physical and the usual roleplaying customization we're used to, but also story and background customization, similar to Mass Effect and cRPGs like Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity.

    • Choice and consequence. Freedom. Only in these forty minutes, there are at least 3 instances where you could have taken a different approach, be it in dialogue or in action, during a quest. This is something I feel is sorely missing in Bethesda's RPGs - especially Fallout 4, where you have no option but to shoot your way through.

    • Interesting characters. Jack, your companion, seems like a great fellow, and I loved the banter V had with him during the gameplay. There's also Victor, the doctor, a well developed character that is essentialy just a merchant. DeShawn (not sure if this is the name) looks and sounds awesome, it's just the kind of guy you'd expect in a world like Cyberpunk - if I don't find someone better, I know where my allegiances will be!

    • Dialogue. It's amazing - and it looks like Witcher 3, where you have different yellow responses that end a conversation and white ones that are there for those of us more curious or who like digging deeper. Perfect for roleplaying and shaping our own story. Get a cue here for your next RPG, Bethesda... Please.

    • The gameplay is smooth and it feels "light", or "free". Uh... It feels "natural". You get it, right?

    • I can't wait to see the city at night.

I think this is it for now. The only bummer is on my end - no way I'll be able to play this at release, I think.

This is definitely the game I'm most looking forward to right now - yes, more than Starfield, TES VI, Red Dead 2, Total War: Three Kingdoms and Tim Caine and Leonard Boyarsky's new game.

Also, some millionaire should buy the rights to World of Darkness (read: Vampire: the Masquerade) and handle it to CD Projekt Red. Right now.

    *It's a joke.

(Just a quick note, I've fixed the video so that it loads in the page where you've embeded it. I just added the s to https as with some of our settings it wont load items that do not include that.)

I keep forgetting that this is the same studio that made the Witcher 3, so I'll go from a passing interest to "I'm getting this game!" whenever I'm reminded. I haven't yet watched the full video since I needed to be out my front door 2 minutes ago, but if I can't run this game on my PC I'm 100% going to get it on my ps4 for a very similar reason to you Mr. Edd.

I'm just going to watch the video and write my reactions as I go. I'm extremely excited about the game, tempered with logic and a little hesitation, but very interested.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1:05 - Hmmm, so the Backstory Selection is something that I hope is really, really BETA at the moment and there's going to be a lot more further on. Like, what I see interests me, I like the idea of having a pretty simple system that can create a variety of different, unique characters but it's going to have to be a bit more... expansive for me to be really interested in the game's CC. If what I see now develops into dozens of options for each category (and a few more categories) it'd be a lot more interesting for replays, especially if they play a role in further gameplay/story development (which, I absolutely assume they will).

1:10 - Character Customization looks good, especially just how damn good the characters look. I would've enjoyed it more if they showed off a few different options and really played around with it a bit more, but I'm fine just seeing the number of options. But yeah, not going to complain if we get more options, but god damn does the character look really, really good.

1:30 - Okay, digging the lack of class and the focus on the game being fluid, I think that's important for a game like this and it interests me. The idea that one of the stats is 'Cool' is sort of hilarious, I mean, I assume it's something pretty similar to Charisma but it's sort of...I dunno, funny at the moment. Other then that, looks awesome and I can just imiagine the sheer amount of customization it's going to have.

2:00 - Fuck does the environment look absolutely stunning. Just, that's all I can say on it, but even this run-down apartment looks absolutely stunning and well designed. The soundwork is awesome as well, the world just feels really lived in at the moment.

3:00 - Eh...shit, to be honest the Combat just isn't doing it for me yet, I mean I really enjoy the fact that you can destroy the environment like you can see, and that powers/abilities seem to require a bit of time before being active. It just makes combat feel a lot more tactical than most other games. More than anything else, just fuck yes, I love the fact that you can destroy the environment like they've shown so far, being able to destroy walls to kill enemies or just make the fight more interesting is great. Throw in the fact that it makes the game feel (slightly less) shoot-and-cover feeling than say... Deus Ex, I dig it you know. Just not sure if I like how fluid it feels so far.

5:00 - That's some damn nice water. That is all.

6:15 - Gotta shove breasts in our face straight away I guess :P

6:40 - DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN. Okay so more than the inside, I have to say that the outside of the building looks really great, it still reminds me a bit of Blade Runner or Deus Ex, which is sorta sad I guess, I dunno it just (at the moment) feels very standard for a Cyberpunk World, and that's not a bad thing, I was just hoping for something a bit more unique feeling I guess. In the end I'm obviously going to prioritize the story and gameplay over how 'unique' the world feels, but still wouldn't complain if it was a bit more unique. That's all.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8:25 - More female nudity...well near-nudity. Eh, that's fine with me :D Character looks hot as hell though.

9:30- Okay that's more like it, stepping away from the eternal darkness and depressing theme on everything. I absolutely love the sight of the city in daylight, it's something you really don't see that often in Cyberpunk games, but it looks amazing. Other then that, the music playing here is really nice, not my normal thing but it has that nice blend of old-school and futuristic.

10:00 - Casual movement seems really smooth, just fast enough to feel like your getting around but not too fast. It's a tough balance but something I appreciate.

12:30 - I do appreciate the effort of telling us some of the Lore, Worldbuilding and the Concept of the game so far, I prefer it infinitely to just showing us random combat scenes.

13:00 - FUCK, just fuck okay so I'm more sold than ever just seeing the world in a bit more detail. I've never felt like your walking into a crowd more than what the demo is showing, it just feels real and sprawling and amazing. I'm a bit speechless to be honest, so I might not say much more for a bit...just fucking damn it looks great, and that's selling me more than anything (well, the World and Design).

15:00 - Okay, so I've got my biggest point of critiscm so far. I've noticed that in the dialogue scenes, what you get shown (as in what you choose to say) isn't exactly what your character actually says. That's a huge pet peeve of mine in games with this style of conversation, and so far it's been a bit...I don't know how to put it, but the tone seems to shift sometimes between what you pick and say. To me, that's just downright annoying and game-breaking at times. Some other things that annoy me but I'm entirely willing to discount is the fact that a lot of people are just named "NC Resident" or something, for me that's just a bit dissapointing, not game-breaking or anything, but a tad annoying.

20:00 - Another positive, I love the creativity they've put into the Cyberware so far, it just seems like they've spent a lot of time and effort making individual or profession based pieces of equipment that makes everything feel real as shit. I love the scene with Victor, it's nothing major I guess but his hand thing was just awesome. It's something I enjoy, and most importantly it's just really cool to see it developed beyond the basic stuff/COMBAT MURDER WEAPONS you know. So far the positives definitely outweigh the negatives, so I'm more interested than I was an hour ago. Oh and I just noticed that you can see what seems like levels on some characters, couldn't figure it out immedietly (for some reason...) but it's cool I guess.

24:00 - Yeah, driving time. Okay, so it's...we'll see, so far the HUD is a bit distracting I guess, but I love that there are veichles in the game, and I'm already down for it. Okay and combat is looking really good too, feels smoother than on-foot combat to be entirely honest. Oh, okay so at around 26:30 you can see the third-person view of driving, definitely looks better than the first-person view. So yeah, I just enjoyed that a lot more, so more eager for it :D

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gonna cut it out here and watch the rest tommorow. Might even give it a second view (or at least portions) because I'm intrigued, still a bit torn on some things but for the most part I'm really enjoying the gameplay, especially because they're kind of...not glossing over combat, but they're making it clear that it's not the only focus of the game. It's not going to be a hard decision over whether I pick the game up or not, it's just a matter of whether I get it straight away or wait until it's a more reasonable price. I'm loving the look of it so far, but it's really early on in development (or...fairly early in) so I'm still a bit...weary I guess.

That's really the biggest selling point for me so far, it was just...amazing (and I mean, literally awe-inspiring) to see the detail and care put into the world. I honestly can't think of a game that feels more real, though obviously the Witcher 3 feels pretty close, but even that pales in comparison just because of the sheer scope of the game. On one hand I'm so glad that I don't play PC because this looks like a bitch to run, but then I'm debating whether the older PS4's would be able to run it, and I'm seriously debating the idea of getting a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X.

Yes, I'm thinking about buying an XBOX too. The only thing is: is 4K the only thing that Xbox One X and PS4 Pro offer? And with the new generation right around the corner (2020 I think), won't the XBOX One and PS4 have a short-life?

Anyway, I'm going to start looking for hardware to see how much an upgrade would cost me and compare that with the cost of an XBOX. I'll see who wins.

I believe the creator of Cyberpunk, Mike Pondsmith, created his world because he wanted to create something like Bladerunner.

Agreed on the dialogue thing, I think Witcher 3 is somehow like this too, no? It's been a long time since I played it, so I don't remember exactly how that worked, but I don't think it was as annoying as say, Fallout 4's dialogue. On the NPCs having standard "names", I don't really mind it, it's kind of "realistic" as in you don't talk to everyone you meet and it's practical: by assigning names to them, with so many people around, you wouldn't be able to tell who was just Random Joe #31 to who was Joe, the drug dealer on the corner. Of course, you'd have surnames, but I think it takes away from the feeling of uniqueness when you have so many Joes around, for example (no way the devs would go around naming all characters, they would likely just assign an algorithm or something to do it!)

Heh, yeah can't entirely remember either. Either way it definitely wasn't anything like how terrible Fallout 4 was, but that was more just a case of having even smaller 'written responses' but similar length 'spoken responses'. It wouldn't really be a massive problem if it weren't for the fact that I felt like it was pretty common in the Demo (and again, Demo so can't hold it against the game too much).

That's fair, and I guess it'll depend on whether/if they explain how you can see other people's names. I mean, with Jackie (for example) you see his name floating above him at all times, and it feels like an in-game thing based on...well how the world is formulated and all. So anyway, if you only see his name because you know it, that's fine, but if there's some sort of 'archive' that you access to know someone's name and level...well that makes it a bit more annoying when you see 'NC Resident'.

So in the end, it just depends on how they justify it/if it's an in-game thing. I have no issue with not naming every character, but it sorta feels like it's an inconsistancy in the world.

Okay so I'm in on the second half of the Demo now. I don't have as much to say on it because it's more of the same, but I have to say that the Gameplay is just getting better and better for me.

35:00 - So, more than anything I have to admit that this half has really, really sold me on the world more than anything else. The 'Tech' weapons are really interesting, designed to punch through walls, shot-charging, just a cool weapon type that makes different weapon types feel unique (at least so far). The uh...whatever their name is, the Maelstrom I think it is...anyway, they're fucking awesome conceptually, having a group of people that modified themselves beyond even normal people, it's just cool. The character design on them is great too, and it made me think of some really interesting ways that Cyberware can be used, it's looking even better the more they show me.

41:00 - 'Smart' Weapons are also dope as shit, I mean tracking rounds? That's dope as fuck, and again, really different to the other two weapon types shown so far.

42:20 - Okay, some of the 'stealth' stuff and hacking enemies looks really interesting. I love the idea, and it's something that seems to reward 'Hacking' playstyles beyond anything I've ever seen in a 'Cyberpunk' game. OH and the melee weapons are cool too, love that they made them not just boring 'stab enemy so they die' style weapons and they're also used for quick movement.

44:00 - EXO-SKELETONS FOR THE WIN. Just generally the combat scenes here are great, but I can't get too excited because they did say this is late--game content...still fucking awesome, and Royce here seems like he'd be an actual threat for some characters, or players who get a bit too excited and rush in. IT really makes me glad that the game has a real focus on scouting.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, I've got to be honest, this is one of the best (by far) Gameplay Demos I've ever seen, the sheer amount of detail they've gone into with it is amazing and it has me more excited  than any Demo has before. Thanks for sharing this Edd, probably wouldn't have watched it for weeks if it weren't for this discussion :D

How many times have you rewatched this damn thing? Maybe I'm overreacting, but damn... It's like Skyrim all over again. I'm saving up money just to upgrade my computer for this masterpiece.
