WIP Character Build: The Chancer 2018 Ordinator Reboot

  • June 29, 2018

So, a while back (hell it's probably two years back now) I did this build called the Chancer, all about this incredibly obscure piece of lore about a god of luck. It was a build I was pretty obsessed by and put a lot into, and was pretty pleased with the results. However...looking at it now I'd say there are things I'd do differently. The major problem with the original build was that it ends up pretty OP, and there's too much going on (too many perks, quests, ideas, everything but the kitchen sink). I've been toying with the idea of doing a rebuild in Ordinator, which I pretty much exclusively play with now.

I usually have a build pretty well developed before I play with formatting in the workshop, but this time I'd like to try and use this as a place to mess about from scratch. The original Chancer had multiple major rewrites and playtests, so this will probably be the same. I do have some ideas though. I'd like the reboot to be a tighter, lower level build, with a somewhat different and less muddled concept. The original build focused on using RNG mechanics, and there's not much of that in ordinator - instead I'd like to explore creating a more RP focused build than I usually do, and tell something of a story.

    The Chancer

A young, wandering warrior and jack of all trades, blessed by Sai, the forgotten god of Luck.

     Race: Nord

Skills: One-Handed, Block, Speech, Smithing, Alchemy, Archery, Restoration.

Combat: would like to try an unarmoured build *gulp*, and one-handed/free handed. ok tests show that this is quite possible if you have a badass sword early on. The idea is that he's a wanderer with a bit of skill with the blade, not some professional killer. I quite like the idea of the young, green warrior, armed with simple courage, taking down dragons by luck and a sword in their vulnerable spot.  That said, Sai does have an association with Ebornarm (I guess if you don't need luck in battle, where do you need it), so there's an excuse for being pretty darn good/lucky with a blade.

Speech: being accompanied by Sai in wolf form, using the animal companion perk, and a couple of trading perks.

Restoration: from Sai's association with Mara. Edgewalker looks good, and maybe Pilgrim/Gods and Mortals.

Smithing/Alchemy/Archery: The concept of "luck" in the Sai story, re-reading it, is less about rogueish risk taking, and more about fortune and prosperity in ordinary life. That's why in the story Sai settles down as an ordinary homesteader. I've taken out most of the magic from the build, and the thief skills, and made him a simple dabbler in the ordinary things Nords have always done to survive and relied on good fortune in: metalwork, herbcraft, hunting.

Equipment: Ordinary clothes (maybe some hide bracers and leather boots of fortune from Summermyst), bandoleir bags and pouches. Weapons: (steel? silver? Awesome Artefacts Thane weapons? Modded Sword: Longclaw) Valdr's lucky dagger, obvs., ordinary Nordic Bow).

Story: A graduate of honourhall orphanage, who begs Mara for a little luck, and promises that he will help the luckless if she grants his prayer. Starts to wander Skryrim as a Jack-of-All-Trades.

How to roleplay being a wandering tinker/trader/herbalist/hunter etc...

Looking forward to it. I'm still not sure what RNG mecanics are...
