I'd forgotten about the butterfly door! A few precious moments of awesome that just totally set you up for SI. The night sky in SI is lovely - In fact, I think the sky in TES IV looked better than TES V's.

I love the shiny aurora in Skyrim, not going to lie, but the pink and gold swirls in SI are special. Not to mention the random gold and green sparks that fly around like fairies. I’ve tried to get screen shots of them, but I”m not quick enough.

It's possible I wear rose-tinted specs when remembering Oblivion at times. You're right about the aurora, it's very pretty. I can't remember gold and green sparks in SI! I'll need to watch a video to jog my memory I think.

The sparks are super cool. It looks like the sparks that surround madness ore deposits, but random, in the wild. Like fairy dust.

I'm looking at vids now to see if I can spot them :D What character are you rolling, may I ask? My biggest problem with Shivering Isles from an rp perspective came with the Baiting the Trap quest. I struggled to justify either choices - drive the adventurers insane or let them get killed. How are you finding that this time round?

Nord, Nord, Nord. You can take the girl out of Skyrim, etc. ;) With some of the SI quests, I just go along to get along. They’re just so questionable, and the people we have to work with, well. Let’s just say I’d personally not go through the door in the first place. And I’m not that much into RP in Oblivion. The things we’ve talked about already - limited dialogue, scene-breaking interaction with NPCs, repeated dialogue - makes it tough to get into character. I mean, EVERY TIME YOU LEAVE SHEOGORATH, HE SAYS HE’LL PLUCK OUT YOUR EYES. So I’m playing mostly for the experience, for the fun of the quests, rather than for getting into character. But...with the Baiting the Trap quest, I always choose driving them insane. I mean, they’re in the Shivering Isles. They’ll probably be driven insane at some point anyway, and maybe there’s a chance they can live a decent life with all the other insane people there, if they ever get to leave Xedilian. If they’re dead, that chance is nil.

Ha! xD I wonder how much of that is due to not finding your Oblivion Farkas? :p Playing for the fun is also good! I get where you're coming from and agree with that rationale. How about their immortal souls, though? If someone dies touched by Sheogorath, their soul becomes his. Whereas if they die sane then their choices and actions in life may reflect where they will go. By driving them insane we give them life but it's a life of prison, forever the Mad God's property. If we let them die then we're responsible for their deaths and have taken that gift but their souls could be free and still have a choice. Like you say, I'd nope away from that door in Niben Bay.

Ha! Yeah, playing without a follower is a lonely thing. I’d never given it much thought before, and even played Skyrim for years without a follower. But now, yeah, I need my Farkas or Vilkas or Argis or Stenvar. Hm, that’s a good point in TES universe. I guess I never think about peoples’ souls. It’s hard to do when I, personally, don’t think it’s a real thing to remember that it IS real here. Although the Dreamsleeve sounds pretty crappy, TBH. Like Haskill says, maybe it’s not so bad under the Madgod? And they did come to the Shivering Isles of their own free will, so I don’t know.

Impossible (or very hard) to be an atheist in Tamriel, too many spirits want your soul :D I guess life with Uncle Sheo wouldn't boring, so there's that at least. Never a dull moment! Although didn't he ban the growing of beards and enforces that pretty strictly? Like, when he says he'll pluck out your eyes or skip rope with your entrails I get the feeling one of these days he actually will. Maybe I'd become a Heretic or Zealot and worship Arden-Sul.

That reminds me: Have you gotten as far as playing the Ritual of Mania quests with the Greenmote? I'm curious as to whether that little section is as clever as I remember in establishing a dependency to heighten the tension. At least I think it was that quest...

I would probably fit in a little too well in the Shivering Isles, unfortunately. Probably end up being friends with Cutter.

I have! The one where you’re dependent on Felldew to find the Chalice? Yes. That one is fun. The tension def increases, since you’re rushing around not  to find the Chalice, but also a damn glowing elytra so you can get more felldew.
