There are a lot of different types of RPG out there. When someone says that they enjoy RPGs, they could be talking about a whole different sub-genre than somebody else who says they enjoy RPGs. So what type of RPGs do you enjoy? This could be ARPGs, JRPGs, CRPGs, ect. I personally enjoy ARPGs and CRPGs but dislike JRPGs. Discuss.

CRPG- Computer Roleplaying game- A dated term but this pretty much refers to RPGs like Baldur`s gate, Never Winter Nights, and dragon age origins.

JRPG- Japanese Roleplaying game- Roleplaying ames like final fantasy and Pokemon fit into this list.

ARPG- Action Roleplaying game- Roleplaying games like Skyrim and Dragon age 2 that are very action oriented (kind of self explanatory)

I have high hopes for DA:I. It looks like they are trying to make an ARPG-CRPG hybrid.

I believe that my favorite RPG I've ever played was Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. Not even sure that qualifies, but it was simple to control and extremely entertaining. I'd be tempted to get a DS if they made a sequel to that, instead of the umpteenth pokemon.

I've definitely played more ARPGs though.

My favorite RPG is Skyrim (I started in the 6th generation of consoles so dont scold me) with DA:O as a close second.

Ah, they would release one right as I left the country. I'll have to try to find a copy. You played it, Jo? Is it a good sequel?

How's it too childish? Yeah, Chibi anime is childish, but some mantas and animus, like Death Note, pull it off. Is it the pointy chins?

    I liked ME 2 and 3

The story telling in ME2 was somewhat lost, and it was right off the mark in ME3, but I found both to be just as entertaining to play as ME1. DA:I's only appeal to me is that it showcases a team dynamic similar to ME2, which I really liked. So I'm willing to give it a chance.

I'll second this. Both games were fantastic.

Oh, and if you enjoyed FF Tactics, you'll love Disgaea.

It's the art style. I've found most western people (myself included) think it looks childish and dumb, with the massive eyes, pointy faces, and preteen-looking characters. I have a few friends who are really good at the art style, but it's not most people's thing.

I almost have to feel like I'm part of the world (either through a good DM or being "inside" my character), so CRPGs are a bit frustrating to RP in, especially Dragon Age. The whole point-and-click form of combat and having the camera miles above is really unimmersive, in my opinion. I still play them 'cause I like the story, but I can only RP in ARPGs.

JRPGs just have an art style I will never get over.

For me its the campy, over the top comedy relief that knocks me out of most series. If it maintains a serious tone with a believable universe, I can enjoy it just fine.

Name me 1 RPG that doesn't count as an action game.... and if you say something like the Sims I will internet pimp slap you cause that is a life simulator, you take no role in the game

Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind. All RPGs with no action elements.

The reason they give them big eyes is to be more expressive, and the pointy faces are a cultural thing cause most Japanese art is made with edges or crisp curves.

So in all of those you don't fight anything?
