Rangers of the North: Part one ~ 1st of Morning Star, 4E 127

  • 'He can't hide forever!' said Jon Battle-Born, Captain of Whiterun's Guard.

'But sir! You saw what he did to the Court-Mage, we don't want that happening to us' said a guard, new to the watch and still wet behind the ears.

'ARE WE A BUNCH OF TAVERN WENCHES, OR ARE WE MEMBERS OF THE GUARD, CUSTODIANS OF ORDER!' roared the Captain.

    'Members of the guar-'

His response was cut short as an arrow, seemingly coming from nowhere, got the guard right between the eyes. As he crumbled, the rest of the troop shot arrows in every direction  in the hope that they would get their unseen foe. One by one the guards fell, leaving only the Captain.

'I'm sorry about your guard Captain, but you must understand the the Court Mage was practicing dark magics all the while poisoning the jarl's mind' said a man, emerging from the shadows.

'I know ranger, I wish your kind had contacted me though, I could have made it so you would get out of the city unharmed, and I would have lost none of my guard' replied the Captain.

'We would have, but eventually people would have realized that every time one of us acted, the guard were nowhere to be seen, and we had no trouble leaving the city.'

The Captain went to reply, but the man no longer stood in the clearing,

'Damn rangers, no sense of etiquette'
