If anyone viewed comments that I post on here (and on the old site), you might notice that I love Elder Scrolls mods and the community. I mean, who doesn't? Elder Scrolls have some of the greatest modders for any series of video games, rivaling Source mods and Crysis-based mods in terms of innovation and community size and dedication.
Well, this time around I have decided to look seriously into making my own mods and releasing them on sites like SkyrimNexus, PlanetElderScrolls and ModDB. While I might release some basic mods early on (like a house, or a couple buildings, etc.), I really want to create something big. I love landmass mods, and more specifically, I love when landmass mods are lore-based. Tamriel Rebuilt has added so many hours of playing time from me in Morrowind (and the more they release, the more I will play and explore new territory) that it's mind-boggling. In Oblivion, there are a few more big landmass mods: Elsweyr, Deserts of Anequina was probably the most well known one on Oblivion. It added most of the province of Elsweyr to explore and settle, and even do some quests. Total Tamriel, despite being plagued with certain problems and not fully finished, was another great one. Tamriel Heightmaps was probably the biggest one, adding the entire continent of Tamriel to the game (just the landmass, no landscape, no cities, no npcs, etc.). Onra (the creator) did a great job with the other provinces and made it very lore friendly in terms of their shape and size (sort of). Of course, other mods added on to THM, adding landscapes to Black Marsh, Valenwood, the rest of Elsweyr, High Rock and Summerset Isles. Some people even started making their own mods based off of this, and I can only hope that continues to the point where one day we will be able to turn on Oblivion and play on the entire continent filled with detailed regions to explore and settle in.
So, where am I going with this long description of landmass mods that I happen to like and are lore friendly? Well, if you haven't gotten it yet, I'm planning on making a landmass mod for some of the neighboring provinces. I want to work on the provinces east of Skyrim: High Rock and Hammerfell. The eastern portion of High Rock will not be too hard to work on: it has mostly the same terrain as Skyrim, it's just populated predominantly by Bretons. The cities of Jehanna, Farrun and Evermore are located in the eastern portion of High Rock, and will certainly be fun to work on.
However, I want to add more than landmass and landscape. I wish to have a new region, sprawling with NPC's you've never talked to before, along with new dungeons, new quests and even new factions. East High Rock is not the only place that I have set my sights on. I also wish to cover northeastern Hammerfell. The main cities in this area are Elinhir and Dragonstar, both conveniently located right near the Skyrim border and contain a heavy Nordic influence. Hammerfell has a very diverse and varied terrain, so it might be a little harder to work on this area. However, it is almost entirely mountainous in the northeastern region of the province, so there won't be too many issues of putting in a desert or some grasslands.
I know, these ideas sounds kind of ridiculous to some, and I hope I'm sounding overly ambitious, but I really wish to work on something like this. Of course, I have a life outside this game, and because it's such an enormously heavy work load I hope to get a group of people together to work on the mod. If you have: any expertise in modding (whether it be textures, landmass, cities, etc.), are very knowledgeable in lore (and I hope to catch up on the new lore in Skyrim, it is 200 years after everything we know after all), or are a good artist who can possibly work on some concept art pertaining to these regions I have described, feel free to message me or leave a comment below.
If you are a modder (or just an imaginative person), describe your own ideas for Skyrim mods in the comments below. I hope everyone has had the patience of reading this long and kind of unfocused post. This is an idea I have that's very early in it's infancy: it's only basic ideas right now. Hopefully we can turn these ideas into something playable.
Also, if there are actually a group of people somewhere on the internet that are working on something like this (putting a lore-friendly region into the game), feel free to say and post links if possible. In the distant future, unless Bethesda adds this as DLC, I also wish to add Solstheim into the game. Once again, thanks for reading this long, unfocused post.
