The Heart of a Beast: Chapter 3 Lads and Lasses

  • As I walk through the streets of Windhelm, I can't help but marvel at the beauty of the city. I have lived in camps for most of my life, constantly on the move to keep us safe from hunters. Now that I'm actually in a huge city, I'm amazed at seeing houses that are so huge. The intricate stone carvings for each of the buildings, the smell of fresh spices and food from the trading center, even the icy cold air that many would say is too cold; all of these I love. Dragon and I have just finished a bounty on a group of bandits who had been holed up in a nearby castle, as part of our celebration; we split the money between ourselves and decided to relax in the nearest city. I roam the streets, trying to take in the city's vastness. After awhile, I head to the local inn to rest for the night. As I entered it my my ears perked up, I heard laughter from above me, on the second floor of the inn. I know one of the people laughing was is Dragon, but the other is a man with an incredibly heavy accent that I did not recognize. "... And remember the time we convinced Delvin that Vex was interested in him?" The man said says as he chuckles. "Yeah!" Dragon says, laughing even more. "And when he talked to her about it she knocked him unconscious with one punch!" The two of them continue to laugh until they need to catch their breath. "Yeah... Those were good times..."The man says to her, who was is he, and how did does he know her? "So lass, how have you been doing?" Lass? "I've been doing fine, I've made a new friend. We've been companions for almost a year now. His name is Korin." Well, if she is telling him about me, he must be a friend of hers. "I met him during one of my bounties. I had just killed a group of vampires and their thralls. I was heading back to Falkreath to accept my payment. As I was walking across the forest I saw him, he looked as if he were a injured wolf cub, curled up in a ball. "So I decided to try and revive him, and with the help of some bandages, healing magic, and lots of luck, I fixed him. He was so grateful that he asked if he could join me in bounty hunting. He said he was already a skilled tracker and hunter, so his skills would be quite useful. We've been traveling together ever since" "Interesting, a lone wolf who found a pack..."The man said, but the way he said it implies he knows more than he is letting on. "Yeah, well enough about me, what's been happening with the guild recently?" Dragon had asked him. Guild? "Things couldn't be better lass. The guild is back to full strength, we have all new contacts in every city, and we have a brand new Guild Master, a dark elf woman." He sounds... happier and more hopeful now. "When do I get to meet her?" Dragon asks the man. "Not for awhile lass, I can't give you all of the details yet, but I can tell you it involves the emperor, a necklace, some sweet rolls, and some moon sugar... Don't ask..." The man answers her... I don't even want to know what this woman the man is talking about was doing... "Well it's been nice catching up Bryn." She tells him, so his name is Bryn... "We should do this more often." "You know lass, this little get together doesn't have to end just yet. I own a room in this tavern, we can continue our conversation in... Private." The man says... Every fiber of my being right now wants me to punch him... "Sorry lad, I've got important things to do. We'll talk later." Dragon replies to him with a hint of laughter, it must be an inside joke that only they know about. "Alright, goodbye Dragon." He says as he heads down stairs. I tried try to look inconspicuous and decided to walk up the stairs. He looks at me and gives me a smile and says, "Hello lad, how are you doing this fine evening?" "Couldn't be better." I say, straight to the point, "Have you seen a Breton woman around here? Wields a crossbow?" "... Wait... Are you? Oh, so you're Korin." He says. "Well a friend of Dragon's, is a friend of mine. The name's Brynjolf." "Nice to meet you, well I must find Dragon, so if you'll excuse me..." Before I could move past him, he puts his arm in front of me, blocking the staircase. "Listen lad, I know who you are and what you are... As long as you keep her safe, your secret is safe with me." He says to me, his words are colder and veil a threat. I tell him that I promise to protect her and he gives me a nod. As he lets me pass through, he gives me a smile that makes him look charming. I hate Brynjolf...

Yeah, this isn't really a grand point a to point b story, it is just going from adventure to adventure and the characters just react to it. I have trouble when thinking of a grand scene for a story cause I have. A beginning, and an ending... But no middle...  more

Thieves guild for the win. I do like the integration of a lot of aspects and the familiarization of details within the city and whatnot. Totally makes me want to put Korin and Dragon in my story eventually since they've been introduced to the thieves guil...  more

I know, I'm terrible at writing female characters. Most of the women I know are tomboyish, so that make my writing difficult

He was difficult to write, mainly because I was afraid of what I could say and what I couldn't say as him. I wanted him to be a little bit more flirtatious, but I think it worked out
