    Chapter 13: Dawnguard

Val, Aela and J'huzho started their hike towards Riften in the morning. A usually loud and playful child, Val was sad and on the brink of tears. Theryn's kidnapping hit her harder then the others. She didn't know where he was, where she was going, or when will she see him again, If she sees him again.

"Don't worry, Val." said Aela as she put her hand on Val's shoulder. "We'll find him."

Val smiled for a moment, trying to bring some light to the sad situation. "I'm more worried about those vampires." she said.

As they continued their hike, Aela stopped them. "Look." she said and pointed at the forest.

"What is...?" asked Val but she lost her words when she saw a beautiful blue colored wolf roaming the woods.

"This one has never seen a blue wolf before." said J'huzho.

"There is a legend about that wolf." said Aela.

"I would like to hear it." said Val. "We could use some rest anyway."

"This one likes the idea." said J'huzho.

    "Very well." said Aela.

After a few minutes, they set up a small camp on the bank of the river.

"A long time ago, there was a Companion. Her life was pretty simple and boring. She spent her time in Jorvaskrr or the Whiterun market. But, one day, along came an Argonian from Black Marsh. His name has been lost to the passage of time, but it is still known that he was a werewolf. He joined the Companions and the two of them fell in love. After some time, the Argonian fell in battle. After a long time of grieving, the Companion made a deal with Hircine. She would become a werewolf and the personal pet of Hircine itself. In return, the wolf spirit of the Argonian will be free to roam the wilds of Tamriel. The story goes, when you see the blue wolf, a red wolf is nearby. And they will always be together."

"It's a beautiful story, Aela. To bad it's only a legend." said Val.

"To bad." said Aela with a little smile.

They continued on their road and eventually reached Riften. They were stopped at the gates by some guards.

"Hold! You need to pay a tax to enter the city." said the guard.

"Why? Never had to pay before." said Aela.

    "New rules." said the guard.

Aela was obviously angry, but she reached for her coin bag anyway.

"We're not paying." said Val. "This is obviously a shakedown."

"No. It's not." said the guard.

"Listen, milk drinker! I traveled through half of Skyrim, fought a dragon, vampires and draugr. Now, my best friend has been taken by vampires and nothing will stop me in my quest to save him. Now, STAND BACK!" she said.

The guards stood aside with no words.

    "Impressive." said J'huzho.

They booked a room at the inn and spent the night there. In the morning, they continued on their way.

"So, where is this Fort Dawnguard?" asked Aela.

"Right this way." said J'huzho and pointed at a small cave.

After they got to the other side, they saw a giant lake. They hiked up the path and then, they finaly saw it.

"This one gives you, Fort Dawnguard." said J'huzho.

Val opened her mouth as wide as she could. The fort was amazing. There were patroling guards on the walls and the trail. There were a few people in normal clothes, sparing. They were likely new recruits. They entered the fort and where greeted to Isran, leader of the Dawnguard.

"I heard that your friend was captured by the Volkihar." said Isran. "We're gonna need him to defeat them."

    "Why?" asked Val.

"Because he fought the Volkihar before." said Isran. "He defeated them in Sentinel and Daggerfall."

"Do you know where he is?" asked Aela.

"Yes. He's being held in Castle Volkihar. Northwest of Solitude." said Isran.

"That's the other side of Skyrim." said Val. "What are we waiting for? Let's go!"

"Not so fast." stopped her Isran.

"We have a lead on a Volkihar operation in Dimhollow Crypt. Go there and investigate. We need more intel on the Volkihar." said Isran.

"Fine." said Val and she, Aela and J'huzho left the Fort.

    Castle Volkihar

Theryn was laughing as he was being beaten up. He was tortured for the past two hours.

"Where is Auriel's Bow!?" asked the vampire as he hit him again.

"I don't know." said Theryn and spit out a tooth. "And I don't want to know."

"Very well." said the vampire. "Send him to the brig!" he said to his thralls.

As he was thrown in to his cell, he saw a scared Nord. "Hello, there." said Theryn.

He sat by the Nord and smiled. "They are gonna feel so stupid when they find out." said Theryn.

"Find out what?" asked the Nord.

Theryn showed him a small key. "They're screwing with the wrong mer."
