Hiding in Solitude

  • Hiding… Hiding in Solitude.

    Paths of loneliness, of frustration.

    Paths, run down, never used.

    A cross in the roads.

    Suffering, or agony.

    The same choice.

    The same fate, the same

    Results, the same consequences.

Yet that is hidden, it looks like freedom on one path, and so

    The spark of hope appears

    Once again, before dying,

    Once again.

    A web,

    A web of roads.

Roads that diverge a million times,

Yet all are the same path.

Woods of impossibility surround the trails,

Hiding escapes, too small to be seen,

    Going unnoticed, as

    Fate continues, cruel

    As ever.

    A king,

Who should be feasting in palaces.

    A king,

Who should be admired by all.

    Instead, rotten apples shrivel,

    Mocking him, reminding him,

Of the ripe fruits of life,

    He misses, and will miss,

    Forever.

Oh, solitude is a most cursed fate.

    Especially for this man.

For at the end of his long, long road,

He meets his son, who rejects him,

    Fear in the boy’s eyes.

All men, all women, all children,

    Everyone fears him.

He becomes a tyrant, ruling to hide

    His lonely heart.

Oh, this man, he did weep so,

    When death came apon him.

And as he sobbed, he said

    “I envy every peasant, every

farmer, every worker in these lands,

and yet I hope they never suffer the fate,

    I have.”

So ends the tale, of a man,

    Cursed by solitude.

    But who knows?

Maybe you won’t suffer such a fate.

    Maybe you’ll just go mad.

Gods know what a mercy that would be.

@Justicar Always annoying when that happens. I've had to kick people out to write sometimes
@Canae Huh, the city fits unintentionally well. Thanks for reading!

I'm mostly nice to people, well, as much as a Thalmor like me can be))) Though they are noisy and noise makes me tired. Can't concentrate on my writing, that annoys)))

I liked the last part, about going mad, because I was thinking of Solitude, the city, and so the last bit reminded me of Pelagius.

I used to be wanting, and liking, alone. You know, alone alone. But now, after warming up more and more to some new people I met, I'm much more social. And I agree, even when I was a loner, talking to a person, via Internet or real life, was a boon.

That depends on how you take your loneliness. You might accept it or hide behind the illusion of being a part of a crowd. I myself like silence a great deal, so I'm alone alone))) Though it's good to talk to a nice person sometimes))

@Axuis Wow, I didn't even think of Solitude somehow, just solitude, without the capital. Thanks for reading!
@Justicar People are always lonely. It's a matter of perspective, would you rather be alone by yourself, or alone with other people? Most ch...  more

    Amazing! This is gripping.
For at the end of his long, long road,
He meets his son, who rejects him,
    Fear in the boy’s eyes.

    This struck a chord.
And that ending. Solitude is bliss. Without solitude, one wouldn't kn...  more
