SITE NEWS Wanted: Your ideas for taking the site forward

  • A week ago we transitioned the site from The Skyrim Blog into The Tamriel Vault. It's time to take a moment to take stock, reflect on things, look at how we are doing - and get some ideas for moving forward...

    I know that for some people the 'end' of The Skyrim Blog was painful. I'm sure all of us long-standing devotees felt some sense of passing. Heck, I've poured over four years of my spare time into this site, so nobody felt the changes more acutely than I did...

    But it is an undoubted fact that the changes have already given the site a much-needed shot in the arm. Site Activity is higher than it has been for a long time. We are getting lots of site visitors and signups. And just take a look at the current poll - over 1000 votes in less than two days is a level of polling that I haven't seen for years!

    Added to which we have seen 94 new 'likes' on Facebook since it became The Tamriel Vault Facebook - bear in mind it took more than four years to get 800 likes and you will clearly see that it has gone onto a new level. The same applies to our Tamriel Vault Twitter, a previously moribund Twitter feed that has added over 150 followers in the last week.

    Then we have our new groups: Vault 111; Fallout Character Building; Fallout Lore and Fallout Roleplaying. All set up with enthusiastic hosts, growing membership and the beginnings of content being added...

    So, in amongst the sense of passing, we have much to celebrate.

    But what we need now are ideas for how we can move forward from here. And this is where YOU come in...

    You see, we are in a bit of an 'in between phase' right now. Interest in Skyrim continues to gently decline. Let's be clear, it is still a primary focus of site, but the fact is that fewer and fewer people are still playing Skyrim anymore. That's just an inevitability with the passing of time. Many of the Skyrim Groups are lapsing into torpor, not through any lack of effort form hosts - but because there just isn't that much to say anymore. You can, after all, only have so many tips, so many roleplay ideas, so many (original) character build ideas...

    But at the same time, Fallout 4 isn't here... yet. Bethesda are doing their usual 'drip feed' of information between announcement and release. We'll find out bits and bobs about Fallout - but only when Todd Howard and Pete Hines decide. That's just how Bethesda roll. It was the same with Skyrim.

    So what do we do to make this is a thriving, engaging and lively community in the meantime?

    What can we do to interest people in Skyrim and Elder Scrolls? What kinds of content, activity, competitions or events would you like to have on the site to pique your interest (once again?) in all things Elder Scrolls?

    And what Fallout-related content do you want to see? What can Fallout Lore, Fallout Roleplay and Fallout CB do in the interim period? What other Fallout groups or events would you like to see?

    This is YOUR thread and we want to see lots of people commenting. We are particularly keen to see newer people or those who visit but don't usually comment. Don't be shy. And don't leave it all to the usual suspects

    My apologizes if my concern wasn't clear enough. I don't get on here much because of a hectic schedule. When I'm on here, I have to make every moment count!
    @Chris G - That's a good start right there!
    If you'll can't implement a multi main pag...  more

    It had a different feel that just didn't grip me the same. I hear the jap director left the project and the place hasn't been the same since...

    Oh, and @Mason, Dark Souls was awesome! Although for some reason DS2 never quite worked for me...

    Just looking at @Ry's concerns about showing clear demarcation between the franchises. As has been pointed out the tab system you already have is effective and user friendly.

    I suppose, visually, the top of the home page is dominated by Fallo...  more

    @Ry
    As Vaz said, ning doesn't actually allow there to be two "main" pages, as it were. That's why the tab system at the top of the page was implemented to divide things by franchise.

    @At Ace Exactly
    @Vagzen - To have a separate page and its categories for both Fallout and TES as well as alerting everyone of any big merging change a day or two ahead of time.
    @Mason
    I forgot! a friend of mine did tell me that Bethesda ...  more

    Firstly, your opinion matters more than you think! We really need lurkers to step forward and make themselves heard so we can direct the site properly...
    So why Fallout? I guess it's because it's made by the same people who made Skyrim and...  more

    @Ry, I'm somewhat unsure of what you suggest here. I assume you suggest sort of a switch to Fallout/TES mode so the site's design, content etc. becomes that of a game you picked, correct? If so, Ning does not have such a feature.

    At the top of the page, there are tabs for both TES groups and for Fallout Groups, and a Misc. Groups tab for everything else.
    What exactly do you mean by "tab"? Are you talking about a separate page for each franchise?

    I hope this post is still open because I have a suggestion that I think could benefit all members New like me and older members such as the moderators for the site. I know my opinion won't really matter like talking about it but I do though feel the sudde...  more
